The Good Gift Guide

1 Comments:
ASOS stands for 'As Seen On Screen', which basically mans that all of the clothes and accessories listed on the website are copies of what the stars have previously worn. The site is excellent for people who have idols who they want to dress like, and it is good for finding out the latest fashions and styles.
ASOS.com are based in the UK, so all of the prices on the website are listed in the currency of British Pounds. This does not mean that International customers are excluded though. Recently, they have added a new system where you can choose the currency that you wish to pay in (Euro, US, UK or Canada) and this will show all of the prices on the website converted into your currency.
Personally, I have noticed that the website is updated very often with many fantastic new products. I don't think there has been a space longer than three days where I haven't seen new products in the 'NEW IN' section. Nowadays, this is the first part of the site that I look at when I log on, so that I can see if there is anything different available. The latest fashions sell out quickly, so I do make sure that I check back regularly.
When I first looked on the website (about six months ago), there were at least twenty Playboy products, but I just checked back and this has been reduced to thirteen products, possibly because the Playboy brand is becoming more wanted.
WHAT I PURCHASED
When I went to make my purchase, they were doing this offer where if you spent over £50.00, you would get a free red Playboy retro zip purse worth £7.50 free of charge, along with free delivery. I bought a Playboy Necklace worth £15.00, a Playboy bracelet worth £22.00, a Playboy Blue Purse worth £10.00 and a Star T-bar Bracelet worth £5.00 (which I mainly bought just to make up the cost to £50.00 so that I could get the f
ree
delivery and purse. I decided to use my Solo card and ring up the number to place my order. I must of rang to late or something, because I was greeted by a friendly answer phone message which requested me to leave my details so that they could get back to me. They did get in contact with me the next day, and my order went through successfully.
The lady asked me for details such as a username and password that I would like to use on the site, because you can use it to check up the order information and also for order tracking. Everyday I checked back for three days, until on the fourth day, it said that my item had been shipped. I then received it a couple of days afterward, all carefully packaged and in mint condition. I was very pleased with my order.
In the future, I hope to purchase a lot more of the wonderful Playboy products that the site has to offer, possibly including the navel bar and a Playboy bag. I'm not too sure about the visors though - they seem to look a bit 1970's style to me.
MAGAZINES
ASOS regularly advertise in magazines such as New Woman and B. I also saw a jump suit (£65.00) advertised in the Sun newspaper on one of the fashion pages the other day. They have just started selling shoes on the website (made by Shelly's), and this was a big feature in last months B magazine.
PRICES
The prices of products on ASOS are very reasonable. Especially if you do some good bargain hunting in the clearance section, you could easily get a whole outfit for under £50. Some of the products are a tad bit overpriced such as the white leather tassel jacket as seen on Dido, which costs £80.00 (originally £120.00). Some of the best clearance bargains at the moment include a Tie back cowl neck top priced at only £10 and embroidered combats for only £15!
DISPLAY
The way that the products are set out to be shown on the page is great. The picture of the product is shown in a
n enlarged format at the top, with smaller pictures underneath of different views (which can also be enlarged by clicking on them). To the right of the picture it gives you some general information about the product, such as why it is 'hip and trendy' and who's been wearing something similar recently. It then gives you washing instructions, measurements and a list of the materials used to make the product.
DESIGNER BRANDS
Not only are all of the products on the website, modelled on what celebrities have recently worn, a lot of them are also made by designer labels, to make them extra special. Currently on the website, there are the following brands: BabyCham, Bench., Bico Australia, BoxFresh, Coca Cola Ware, Cosabella, Custo Barcelona, Dolce and Gabana, Girl Actik, Jakes, Jungle, Mavi, Molton Brown London, Pink Piranha, Pringle Scotland, Shelly's, Soochi, Triple Five Soul, Triumph, Vive Maria, Giant, Hooch, Joomi Joolz, Playboy and Ringspun.
My favourite brands out of those include: Playboy, Bench., Coca Cola Ware and Pringle.
CELEBRITIES
You can look up a list of all of the celebrities who they have clothes styled on them on their website. Some of the most common celebrities that they have fashion based on are: A1, Atomic Kitten, Brad Pitt , Britney Spears, Brooklyn Beckham , Cat Deeley, Christina Milian, David Beckham, Dermot O'Leary, Destiny's Child, Geri Halliwell, Girls Aloud, Gwyneth Paltrow, Holly Valance, Jennifer Lopez, Jenny Frost, Julia Roberts, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Rowland, Kylie Minogue, Liberty X, Mis-Teeq, Natalie Imbruglia, Nicole Appleton, Norman Cook, Robbie Williams, Romeo (So Solid Crew), Samantha Mumba, Sarah Jessica Parker, Shakira, Sugababes, Tess Daly, Victoria Beckham .
DEPARTMENTS
There is a menu on the left hand side of the page, where you can search for what you are looking for under specific categories. This helps greatly with navigat ion to wha
t you want to look at, quicker. There is: womenswear, menswear, jewellery, accessories, hair and beauty, gifts and gadgets and clearance. They also have a section called gist ideas which features products priced under twenty pounds, gifts for him and gifts for her. Because the winter has just passed, they also currently have a coat clearance section.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
You can either order your products online, or over the phone to their National rate phone number (0870 0600 888). Both of these payment methods are available, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Unfortunately they do not accept cheques (I e-mailed them and asked them beforehand), but they do accept most major credit cards. At present they are pleased to accept: Amex, Mastercard, American Express, Visa, Solo, Switch, Visa Electron and Delta.
SECURITY
I am very cautious about giving out credit card or account details over the net, but with ASOS, they were definitely reassuring. They use Secure Sockets Layer technology to allow for the encryption of potentially sensitive information such as your name, address and other critically sensitive information like your credit card details. Information passed between your computer and their website cannot be read in the event someone else intercepts it.
This includes the following features:
- Authentification - this assures your browser that your data is being sent to the correct computer server, and that the server is secure
- Encryption - this encodes the data, so that it cannot be read by anyone other than the secure server
- Data Integrity - this checks the data being transferred to ensure it has not been altered
They also have a guarantee, that if your card is used fraudulently, your bank or card issuer cannot hold you liable for more than £50.00 of fraudulent charges. If for any reason your bank or card issuer does hold you liable, ASOS will cover you for the liabilit y up to the ful
l £50.00, provided the unauthorised use of your card resulted through no fault of your own from purchases made at ASOS whilst using the secure server.
DELIVERY
For customers living in the UK, there are two delivery methods that you can choose from. There is:
- Standard Delivery (takes approximately four working days), costs £2.95. If you spend over £50.00, then delivery is free of charge.
- Next Day Delivery (Orders placed before 2.00pm Monday to Friday are shipped the same day, to arrive the following working day). They do point out that they do not count Saturday as a working day. Orders placed after 2.00pm on Friday or on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday, will be delivered within 2 working days. (Excludes Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Scottish Islands, Isles of Scilly, Channel Islands and the following postcodes - HS1-HS9, IV21-IV56, KA27, KW5-KW17, PA20-PA78, PH30-PH44, TR21-TR25, ZE1-ZE3)
Most orders require a signature on receipt.
For customers living in Europe, Standard Delivery is obviously the only option available. This takes approximately 4 - 8 working days, and the cost is subject to weight. This is also the same for customers from the rest of the world, apart from delivery can take from 8 - 14 days.
RETURNS
Obviously if the product is faulty, then you are automatically entitled to a full refund. If you do receive a faulty item, or something sent by mistake, then ASOS are happy to pay for the item to be returned to them. All you have to do is contact the customer services department via the e-mail address listed on the website, and then they will contact you back via e-mail explaining how to go about returning the package. Basically, what they do is send you an attachment in an e-mail, which includes an address, which you take along to the post office, and entitles you to free sending (postage paid).
If you are not satisfied with the product that y ou have purchased fo
r other reasons apart from faulty, then you can return the package in its original condition, including all packaging and documentation, within 28 days. They will then either send you a full refund, or you can choose to swap it for something else, possibly a different size or colour if preferred. For this, you have to cover all postage costs yourself, and I expect that it is best to send either by recorded delivery or with parcel insurance.
CANCELLATION
Under the United Kingdom's Distance Selling Regulations, you have the right to cancel your order, without giving a reason, providing that they receive written notification of cancellation within 7 days beginning the day after receipt of your order.
The goods must be returned to them at your cost, in resalable condition, including all original packaging, with any seals unbroken. For your own protection, they recommend that you send the parcel using a service that insures you for the value of the goods.
A refund will be made within 30 days of cancellation. If goods have not been returned within 30 days, they have the right to collect the goods and deduct the cost of collection from your refund.
