Choosing Underwear for your Man

The perfect gift and the perfect package

Ladies, are you looking for the perfect gift for your boyfriend or husband? You could always purchase them sweaters, trousers, or of course the familiar socks, but are you looking for a present that they will use every day?

Forget sweaters, most men will wear them once and then the sweater will be locked away in a closet for the next decade. Trousers are good but what happens if you get the wrong size, wrong style, or wrong fabric.

One thing a lot of guys are beginning to take a lot of time and attention over is their underwear. Gone are the days when the average guy adorned baggy boxer shorts sporting pictures of Homer Simpson or the Union Jack.

At least that is the case for guys who have girlfriends, for the male of our species is still loathe to actually go shopping for underwear himself. Why you may ask? The answer is quite simple. Package guy

What is on the cover of most underwear packages? That's right, Package Guy. You never see his face, but you usually get a good idea that he is either exceptionally endowed or used a sock for the photo-shoot. Try going underwear shopping with your fella and notice how uncomfortable he gets should you dare to discuss Package Guy.

Let me point out that women don't suffer similar hang ups when browsing catalogues of women in lingerie. We can do this in a completely benign way without being offended or uncomfortable. My personal guess on why is simply; women are beautiful. Guys aren't. Sorry fellas but you exist for practical reasons. Thus your average bloke will dread buying new underwear because it means looking at Package Guy.

That brings back to the perfect gift for both of us, because I personally quite like looking at Package Guy rarity of the species that he is, and will happily browse the mens underwear stores for Bruce.

I did some searching around the web and came across UnderU. UnderU is the largest retailer of high-end designer men’s underwear and swimwear in the world. They have over 400 styles on offer at any one time from the worlds leading designer labels. These include Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, 2(x)ist, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, HOM, Zimmerli, Hanro, Punto Blanco, Bruno Banani, C-in2. What's more they have Package Guy parading in all of these!

So what are your choices?

Briefs

Tighty whities are symbols of a boys youth, and sporting them as adults might indicate that they may not be ready to grow up. After all, it is believed that some men are not ready to forget their inner child, and settling down and getting serious are two things that usually aren't at the top of their to-do list.

Personal experience dictates that briefs are losing their place among the underwear elite. With the advent of boxer briefs and the like, their popularity is decreasing. They are less comfortable than their brethren, and are prone to wedgies (either the socially induced or self-inflicted kind).

However, briefs still offer the consumer some advantages. They offer much more support in the nether regions, which is beneficial in sporting events.

Boxers

This is probably the most conservative style of underwear on the market. The "boxer guy" is usually a proponent of tradition and enjoying his transformation into manhood, which doesn't necessarily mean he's drab. Boxers come in a variety of styles, colors and patterns that give each pair its own personality.

Boxer briefs

Boxer briefs have become the underwear of choice. They combine the best of both predecessors, offering the comfort and loose feel of boxers, while providing some support with their brief-like design.

Men who wear boxer briefs are usually athletic in nature (besides, if you have skinny legs, boxer briefs turn into boxers; nice quadriceps are required). Fans of boxer briefs enjoy working out and they usually pay extra attention to their appearance.

This short examination of the meaning of underwear will surely be helpful in determining what women think about when they see a man's underwear. However, if you're anything like Bruce, your choices aren't made to make me happy, but to feel comfortable and good about yourself -- ah, who am I kidding?

Check out the UnderU website below for some great pants and great packages.

British Museum

Wonderful Gifts from the British Museum

The British Museum Company Limited was founded in 1973 by the Trustees of The British Museum to advance the educational aims of the Museum.

The Company currently engages in a number of activities, including wholesale and retail, publishing, the production of replicas and other merchandise, and licencing. With such a rich collection of art and artefacts available the British Museum has a great plaform for offering many gifts.

Gifts for Him

The British Museum has a wide range of gifts for that special man in your life. Some of my favourites included exact replicas of some of the amazing pieces found at the British Museum. You can also get clocks, shirts, ties, mugs and all the other items you'd expect to find in the British Museum store.

Gifts for Her

The British Museum also contains a fascinating collection of gifts for the woman in your life. My particular favourite was the collection of Persian love poetry that contains extracts freshly translated from the best of traditional and contemporary Persian poetry, and illustrates them with some of the finest examples of Persian art in the British Museum.

Gifts for Children

The British Museum also offers an interesting range of gifts for the inquisitive youngsters out there. My fav was the book of Mummies. This wonderfully designed and colourfully illustrated little book offers a brief overview of the whole history of Egyptian mummification. With clear pictures and short, informative text the book describes a range of Egyptian mummies, from early people whose bodies were accidentally dried out in the hot desert sand, to the amazing mummies of the New Kingdom, whose every fingernail and hair has been perfectly preserved. Last of all come the mummies of Roman Egypt, with their beautiful and detailed realistic portrait masks. The book also shows a range of coffins, masks and grave goods, building up a fascinating picture of mummification in Ancient Egypt.

All in all there is a great range of gifts to suit all ages and all occasions. For more information visit the British Museum store below.

Great Art Online

Contemporary Art

BritArt is the UK's largest contemporary art gallery showcasing the best in emerging and established British artists to a wider audience, including Peter Blake, Peter Lloyd, Colin Jones, Vic Reeves and Jamie Reid, to name but a few. Brit Art features over 4000 original artworks from paintings, prints, to photography and sculpture. Over 400 artists are featured.

Brit Art "believe art should inspire the many, rather than being jealously guarded by the few. Buying original art need not be an intimidating experience, we're here to make it as simple as possible."

The British art scene is thriving and, with help of the Web, buying original artworks by well known and as yet undiscovered artworks is getting easier. The website has a pleasant feel and tone which is incredibly easy to use and navigate, so you'll find what you're after fairly quickly or you can just enjoy browsing, be inspired with fresh ideas and you'll probably find something that will take your fancy.

The gallery isn't imposing, intimidating, posey or snobbish. Art galleries can be intimidating places, even for the seasoned collector. For the novice, they are probably the worst place on earth to start a collection of modern works. Brit Art does away with all this by putting these buyers directly in touch with the artists themselves.

How much does a painting cost?

Prices start at £50, many works are less than £500, up to whatever is affordable. As an incentive to buyers they offer a 14-day money back guarantee.

Our quick guide to buying the right art for your friend/loved one

  1. Be a good observer. You can gauge much about personal style and preferences from the way people dress and the environments they create in which
to surround themselves. Look for clues as to the types and styles of art objects that would be appreciated by those on your gift list.

  2. How well do you know the person you are buying for? The better you know the gift recipient, the easier it is to select a unique object that he or she will cherish. However, if you are not terribly familiar with the gift recipient’s tastes, you can still purchase a gift of art. Your best bet in this case is to stick with functional art such as vases, ceramic cookware, bowls or serving utensils, as opposed to non-functional or very personal items such as paintings, sculpture, clothing or jewelry.

  3. Art comes in all prices. Just because it is art, do not assume that it must be inaccessible. It is possible to buy something that is handmade without going over your gift-giving budget.

  4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, drop Brit Art an email to see what they recommend.

  5. Handmade does not necessarily mean “art.” When making a purchase, you can look for a signature of the individual maker, but most importantly, look for the quality of expression and craftsmanship embodied in the work.

  6. Take your time. Browse. Visit a gallery on several occasions over a span of time to see what is new. Selecting art should be an enjoyable activity for you, as well as a treat for the gift recipient.

  7. Don’t buy art only because it may appreciate in value. Buy it because it makes a great gift that the recipient will enjoy now.

  8. Does your artistic gift need to travel?

  9. Take a risk! It will be worth it when you see the look of delight on the face of the person who unwraps the art work you’ve carefully selected.

How to buy art through Brit Art

When you find a piece of art you are interested in purchasing, simply click on 'Buy' and follow the instructions. Alternatively you can make an 'Offer' for the work. All reasonable offers will be considered and Brit Art, being an amiable, will notify you by email of their decision within one working day. You will find the process quick and easy adding a very nice personal touch.

Some of my favourite products are the twin ranges although you can use your child as a means to spread your very own form of indoctrination, by dressing them in customised tshirts from NappyHead.co.uk. My favourite was the double tshirt with glittery Elvis (being a bit of a closet King fan), until I discovered it's possible to put anything you like on a defenceless baby.

This online store sells funky baby clothing, featuring quirky slogans and funny prints for 0-2 year olds. This is as cool as babywear gets! Delivery is free on orders over £20. Cool t-shirts for cool little dudes and dudettes. They, and their manufacturer, have really good ethical policies covering both the environment and workers rights and these products are wonderful for any baby related gift.

Personalised Chocolate

The grooviest thing in chocolate

Imagine someone's face when your give them their present of a bar of chocolate with their face printed on it! Those clever guys at Groovy Chocolate take a picture and a message and print it directly onto delicious chocolate and dispatch it to almost anywhere in the world. Completely edible and needs to be seen to be believed.

Groovy Chocolates are chocolate bars decorated with a beautiful design and your very own personalised message. Choose or design a truly scrumptious Groovy Chocolate bar, add your personal message or greeting and they will deliver it gift-wrapped to the person of your choosing for any occasion

About Groovy Chocolate

The original idea for GroovyChocolate came from Jeremy Salvesen, an executive with over 10 years experience in the chocolate industry who had watched as children of all ages left sweet shops delighted because their names had been written on Easter eggs and other chocolate gifts.

The technique, which essentially involves squeezing icing sugar out of a cloth bag, has been around for as long as there have been cakes and confectionary. Salvesen thought that there had to be a way of updating the process.

What in retrospect seems the obvious answer was to print on the chocolate using edible food dyes instead of ink. This, however, was easier said than done as the composition and colour of chocolate proved not to lend itself to printing.

Salvesen was not to be defeated. He and his colleagues at GroovyChocolate developed special processes - now being patented - that allow high-quality artwork to be displayed on a bar of chocolate.

The chocolate is special too. The blends have an especially high proportion of cocoa solids, the standard measure of chocolate quality, with our dark chocolate consisting of 70% cocoa solids and our milk chocolate 38% - a much larger percentage than found in the best-selling popular brands.

Summary

Design your own picture and put it on the front of a truly scrumptious GroovyChocolate bar. Available in milk, dark and white chocolate from the finest ingredients. Around 200g of yummy chocolate for you to give to the person of your choice! The approximate size of a GroovyChocolate bar is 12cm x 19cm. This will come gift wrapped in a groovy box and sealed with a designer sleeve.

UK Delivery Details: £1.95 per bar for delivery within 2-3 days from despatch (shown of front of site). Faster option available. For more information visit the Groovy Chocolate website below.

Gardeners Gift Ideas

Do you have green fingers?

By nature, gardening presents many challenges. There are organic, birdhouse, dish, herbal, flower, varietals and ornamental gardens to name a few.

One of the first things to consider is what type of landscaping or gardening the person you are shopping for participates in. Another consideration might be the type of climate in which the person lives. For example, a plant that requires shade and frequent watering to grow will not do well in a dry climate that is often sunny, such as that in Colorado. There are a few varieties of hardy plants that do well in almost any type of climate. These include the following:
  • Yarrow
  • Vanilla Leaf

  • Aster

  • Lady Fern

  • Wild Strawberry

  • Large Avens

  • False Lily of the Valley
All of these plants are generally hardy, and require only average soil for survival. Their sunshine requirements range from shade to full sun. Marigolds, morning glories, poppies and the cypress vine are all great examples of flowering plants that are also easy to grow for the novice or experienced gardener.

For novices, or those that have yet to acquire their green thumb, there are many easy to raise plants and garden gifts that can encourage a blossoming planter. There are also an amazing variety of selections for backyard enthusiasts that complement the garden without requiring a green thumb. Bird baths and planters for example, come ready to implant into even the most basic garden, and add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any environment. Some neat accessories that also fall into this category of garden gifts, include composters and bird houses.

Organic gardening has become very popular. Besides ornamental garden gifts, there are certain products that every organic gardener needs to grow a lush, organic garden, whether they are growing herbs, fruits, flowers, vegetables or some combination of all of these. The list below details some "necessities" that should be considered for any natural landscape:
  • Compost

  • Potting Soil

  • Mulch

  • Lawn Fertilizer

  • Earth Work Castings
Natural gardening is popular because planters often obtain higher yields in their crops. Generally, this type of gardening also is considered "healthier" by many enthusiasts, due in part to the lack of pesticides utilized by growers.

Where can I buy good gardening products?

Greenfingers is an absolute pandoras box of gardening items, there is virtualy nothing that this site fails to deliver on, from a novice to a professional gardener, Greenfingers has something for each of us, it is hard to believe that its only a online store and not an actual place to go and visit. There is a design feature with endless amounts of advice and tips, even a friend named George who is on hand to help. Greenfingers does need to be visited to appreciate the vast selection the site has to offer, I doubt that anyone will be dissappointed.
